I continue to lose my data model in a 2016 excel workbooks intermittently when saving the workbook. Can't seem to find a suitable resolution on the forums. Is there a fix for this?

    1. I've had this issue occur on a couple different Excel files when using the power pivot data model. I use a power query to summarize data from several other files and then add that query result to the data model. I then added DAX equations and additional columns to the model to perform summary calcs.
    2. In one instance I copied the file on the hard drive to backup in another location and upon opening, the data model was gone. In another, excel crashed (happens frequently with power query) and the data model disappeared.
    3. I'm using office 2016 professional plus 64 bit Excel version 16.0.4266.1001 on a Win10 machine.
    4. Office updates are controlled by IT department so can't update to latest or try another version without requesting an approved release. I did perform a "repair office".

Is there a way to get a debug trace for excel when it crashes to include in future requests?

    Hi @Steve Huseman

Based on your description, I did a test in my Office Professional Plus 2016 and Microsoft 365 but didn't reproduce your issue.

I have some questions as below.

    1. Do you mean that this issue occur on specific Excel file?
If so, please copy this file to another PC to see if this issue will occur.
    2. Is there any error message?
If there is, please give a screenshot of it which may help us troubleshoot your issue better.
    3. How did you operate?
    4. What version of Office are you using? 32-bit or 64 bit?
Please update Office to the latest version to check this issue.

Any updates, please let me know.
