How to fix below errror:

This file does not have an app associated with it for performing this action. Please install an app or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Apps Settings page.

PC Info:

Microsoft Windows 10 Professional x64 Edition  (Build 17134)

HP ProDesk 600 G3 MT

Issue started after Windows 10 installed updates.

I cannot open File Explorer or Windows settings.

When I right-clicked on desktop > display settings I got above error.

I cannot open any other program on Windows.

How can I fix this issue and what broke which is causing this issue?

    Hi JACKIN,

    I'm Stefano an Independent Advisor here to help you.
    Please follow this procedure:

    1. Type "cmd" in windows search bar
    2. Right click on "Command Prompt"
    3. Select "Run as Administrator"
    4. Type "sfc /scannow" without quote and press ENTER

    Then :

    1. Type "cmd" in windows search bar
    2. Right click on "Command Prompt"
    3. Select "Run as Administrator"
    4. Type "DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth" without quote and press ENTER
    5. Type "DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth" without quote and press ENTER
    6. Type "DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth" without quote and press ENTER

    You can also perform a clean boot:

    I am Vijay, an Independent Advisor. I am here to work with you on this problem.

    Since you are having many issues, I would recommend that you perform a Windows 10 repair upgrade (This is not Reset or Reinstall of Windows). Repair upgrade fixes all Windows errors and retains all files, applications and settings. (You will not lose any data while backup is a good idea) Below is a good guide to perform repair upgrade

    Thanks for your feedback, but Windows won't let me open cmd, Windows + R I cannot do anything on Windows.

    Youre Windows 10 OS is out of date,try v1803.Get this from Microsoft/MSDN link.

    Once thru,update the pc hardware Drivers/Software,get it from pc mfg web,or pc hardware mfg (Intel/AMD/etc)Also,edit windows services in Add/Remove L.sub menu..Next,in cmd,type:  services.msc

    in msc,any service set as disable,double click,set to manual or auto start.Windows Modules & Installer get set to Auto start...
