does anyone know if Microsoft released the update that takes half of your disk space for its use? I had 25GB left on my surface pro 3 now I have less than half of that. if this is the case is there anyway of getting it back. I did disk clean up and I deleted everything I could but found a lot of new bloatware I didn't ask for that cant be deleted (eg. new extensions, apps). I would restore it but it looks like windows removed the recovery partition.

Hello! I am an Independent Advisor, I would love to help you out!
When you use disk cleanup after it does the initial scan do you then hit the button that says "clean up system files". It will not find any windows updates to remove unless you select that option and let it scan again.
They are most likely on the same partition and as long as you do not want to roll back your most recent upgrade then it should be safe to remove!
Hi Scott, a Windows Update should not eat up your storage like that . ..
Windows Explorer is useless when it comes to working out where your hard drive space is being used . . .
Click the link below to download a small free utility called Treesize. Using that tool, you will instantly see where this space is being used
https://www.jam-software.com/treesize_free/
Once you have worked out where this space is being used, please let me know so I can advise on what is safe to remove or indeed what the underlying problem may be . . .
