2/12/2019. I come into work this morning and am hit with 8 staff members who cannnot use their laptop after Windows update!! After login, screen is dark blue with nothing but a flashing task bar. Hours of frustration, nothing that I do works. SO tired of Microsoft and their updates constantly causing problems and headaches!!! Last month, same thing with updates, only screen was black with flashing task bar. At least that time, removing battery worked to get them back up and running, however that update destroyed a desktop and had to re-install the entire operating system!

So Microsoft what is your fix to the problem this time????

IF you can provide help it would be appreciated.

    Hi Anne,

I'm Stefano an Independent Advisor, here to help you.

I'm sorry you are facing problem with Windows Update and that this problem give you work problems also.

In order to solve your problem I would suggest you to run Safe Mode (start with one laptop and see if that works on it, then proceed with the others) : https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/12376/...

Once in Safe Mode, if you can login and you don't see here any flashing task bar, then:

    1. Type "cmd" in windows search bar
    2. Right click on "Command Prompt"
    3. Select "Run as Administrator"
    4. Type "sfc /scannow" without quote and press ENTER

Once finished open settings and perform a clean boot: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/929135...

Reboot your system and log in with your account (the one your staff use on the device) and see if the problem still exist.

Please let me know if that solves your problem or if you need more help.

The sfc/scannnow and the clean boot brings them back to a desktop. However, their network drives do not reconnect and the Windows Profile Service does not work. The first reboot after this goes back to a black screen with a flashing task bar. So no fix.

    Hi Anne

My name is Fernando. I am an Independent Advisor. I am here to guide you with your Windows issues after the update.

One option is you can try rolling back to the previous build. I would recommend reset Windows 10 keeping your files and apps . . .

    To do this

    1. Start your PC as Windows attempts to load and the spinning dots appear, press and hold Power Button for 5 - 10 seconds. This is known as a Hard Shut Down

    (Do this twice )

    1. Turn on your computer for the 3rd time and it should come up in the Recovery Environment
    2. You will be prompted for System Repair/Safe Mode/Command Prompt
    3. Go to Troubleshoot - Advanced Option - Revert to previous build of Windows
    4. If this is unsuccessful, go to Troubleshoot - Advanced Options - Reset this PC

Choose to keep your files and apps,

You can choose to hide updates until you are ready to update.

Here are the steps you need to take to hide updates you wish.

Step 1: Click here to download Show or hide updates utility.

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/307393...

Step 2: Run the utility. ...

Step 3: When you see the following screen, click Hide updates to view all available Windows and driver updates.

Step 4: Select updates that you want to hide.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask me any questions and let me know how it goes.

    Respectfully,

    Fernando Y.
