promoted links linked to file share not working in tiles view sharepoint 2019

Hi All,

SharePoint 2019 on-prem, we have a promoted links list with the link location pointing to a file share server. The link works well when we are in the allitems.aspx view, however, does not respond when we switch to the tiles.aspx view, i.e., no response when we click on the associated image. I have tried in IE, Chrome and Edge but no luck.

I read somewhere that this is a known issue in modern SharePoint but works well in classic SharePoint although I have not tested it. I have tried switching between the different launch behaviors but no luck.

Please advice.

Hi @Vivek S ,

Per my test, I can reproduce your issue in my SP 2019.

Per my knowledge, that is a known issue. When I click on this url in two different views, the redirected link is different. Microsoft engineers are aware of this issue and are working hard to fix it. Keeping an eye out for future updates is recommended.

Hi Elsie,

Let me brief the issue again. It is the 'Promoted Links' app, where the 'Tiles' view can have the different 'tiles' redirect to the 'link location' defined in the 'allitems' view. If the link locations have a 'https:// ' link, then the redirect happens fine, but if the link location points to a file server (\Fileserver\Filename), then the redirection fails. Could you please confirm if this is the issue you are referring to that the MS engineers are aware and are working to resolve?

When I click on this url in two different views, the redirected link is different. - This statement from your response leads me to believe that my explanation of the issue was not clear.

When it comes to the privacy information, please forgive me for not being able to record the video and illustrate through screenshots.

When I click the url it works well:

However when it comes to the image, this link is not responding and in fact the link is a wrong link.

I did tests in SP 2019 and SP 2016. This issue exists in both of the two environments. This is a known issue. :)

Hello Elsie,

On March 19, 2021 you stated "Microsoft engineers are aware of this issue and are working hard to fix it". We are still experiencing this issue with the latest patches to SharePoint 2019. Do you know when the fix for this issue will be released?
