EFS suddenly enabled for device

Hi,

Suddenly, one of our windows 10 clients has an issue where it seems that EFS denies access to several files on his laptop and personal network drive. When looking at the files in Explorer, there is also a column with File Ownership which shows the name of our domain for example: "domain.com".

When any user on this laptop tries to open this file, it get's an access denied. When I check the file properties of one of these files, it does not have the Encrypt contents to secure data checked, so this should mean it is not encrypted?

The EFS service is running on this laptop, but we have not enabled this as part of our policies. When we disable the service, he still cannot open the files but also Outlook is not able to start anymore. Also opening files on his personal network drive have this issue when logged in on this laptop. When he logs on another laptop, he can access these files perfectly fine.

I hope anyone can help me to figure out why suddenly EFS is blocking access to these since last week and how I can resolve this.

A few things I have tried:

* disable EFS via the FSUTIL command

* Disable the EFS service

Still no luck
