SMB1 Error

Hello all,

I have a NAS that I have been using for years. All of a sudden I get the following error when I try to connect to it;

You can't connect to the file share because it's not secure. This share requires the obsolete SMB1 protocol, which is unsafe and could expose your system to attach.

Your system requires SMB2 or higher.

This NAS helds backups of all my files and is quite important. Is there a way of fixing this error?

Thanks,

Hi Potzki. I'm Greg, an installation specialist and 9 year Windows MVP here to help you.

See possible fixes here:

Which version are you on? I'd Upgrade now to Version 1809 if you've not yet, by installing the Media Creation Tool from this link http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/m... choosing Download Tool Now, install the tool, open it and choose Upgrade this PC Now. This will save your files and apps while bringing you up to the latest version by the most stable method. It will also bring all of your Updates current and solve most problems since it reinstalls Windows.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and keep me posted. If you'll wait to rate whether my post helped you, I will keep working with you until it's resolved.

    You really should see if the NAS manufacturer has an update that will implement SMB2. SMB1 is how ransomware propagates.
