Support from Microsoft for 8 ended in Jan, 2016.

You were supposed to use the free upgrade to 8.1 if you have a Retail or OEM license for 8.

You should obtain your Driver Software from your Computer or Hardware Manufacturer, not through Windows Update (except for Microsoft Hardware Updates), as Microsoft normally does nor have those latest Drivers available as Microsoft relies on the 3rd Party Hardware Manufacturer to supply them.

Go to your Computer or Hardware Manufacture's website > Driver and Software Support Section > look up your Computer or Hardware Model number > then your Operating System > locate the correct Drivers > download and install them.

I stand somewhat corrected it stoped downloading at 66% and said there was a server error. And when i try to update apps in the store it just loads and loads and loads but never does anything

    As I also advised you:

Support from Microsoft for 8 ended in Jan, 2016.

You were supposed to use the free upgrade to 8.1 if you have a Retail or OEM license for 8.

And Drivers are obtained from the manufacturer.
