Hyper-V checkpoint limitation

Hi All,

We are in the process of using Hyper-V core (not via Windows OS) to provide us VMs to test verious products of ours on. The Hyper-V system provides everything that we need at this time but the limitation of only allowing 50 checkpoints per virtual machine is frustrating. I have read (as found in the link below) this can be extended to at least 64 checkpoints but as of yet ive not found anywhere which guides me on how to change to this level. Further, as this system is not a production system performance/resource issues assocaited with having to many snapshots is not an issue for us. On that basis I would really like this checkpoint quantity to be controllable to any value (within reason). Is this possible? Other VM systems (notably Virtual Box) do not appear to have this limit.

    Hi,

As far as I know, the Hyper V checkpoint limitation is 50 and seems no official guide about how to extend or change this limitation.

In best practice, it's not recommended to create too many checkpoints for the VM, checkpoint is different from backup, if you would like to save the state of the VM, it's recommended to use the backup. When you use checkpoint to create new changes for the VM, it's recommended to merge the checkpoint in time when we think the new change is good.

Below is the limitation of Hyper V, for your reference:

I have only three checkpoints and I'm in deep trouble - if I had a choice even going forward I would stick with VMWare.
