Read Only Attribute Windows 10 64 Bit

Hi,

I have recently been having problems saving some files. I became aware that this was due to the Read Only attribute being set on the folder and files.

I have attempted to uncheck the attribute using properties->general.  The read only attribute is rechecked when you check the properties again.

Any new file or folder is set as read only.

I used diskpart to check if the C drive is read only - it appears that it is not.

I tried to create a new windows user but the problem continues.

I have created test folders and attempted

attrib -r +s and attrib -r -s for the folder

I have checked the securities tab to ensure that all users have full control of c drive and of the folders in question.

I have ensured that it applies to this folder and sub folders.

I have disabled and uninstalled any antivirus

I have followed guides posted by others and the solutions don't seem to make a difference.

If anybody has any other suggestions before I reformat the computer and start again I would appreciate it . . .

Thank you

    Thank you for your response.

The reason I posted is because Acrobat was complaining that the files were read only and would therefore not save changes .  I could save them in some old folders but not new folders or in the my documents folder.  I certainly wasn't tinkering unnecessarily.

I restored the computer to a previous state and it now works.

    I will close the issue

    This misconception refuses to die.

The 'black box' in Read-only means that some files - as few as one - are read-only.

A check mark in Read-only means that all files are read-only. In practice, you will probably never see a check mark, unless you put it there yourself.

The black box has been used by Windows and Windows software for ages to indicate 'some, but not all.' I can show you other examples, if that will help.

There are some people who just refuse to accept this, and instead they mess around with their computers trying to fix a problem that doesn't exist, and in so doing they usually cause damage to their Windows setup. Please don't be one of those people.
