Difference between Format and quick format

Question:  Does selecting format, not Quick Format, write over the drive with some algorithms or just the FAT?

    A so-called quick format erases the partition table. Everything that was previously on the drive is still there, but Windows can't find it. It may as well be gone.

    In a low-level format, the entire drive is overwritten with zeros. Without forensic equipment, whatever was previously on the drive is not there anymore.
