CELL Function has stopped working

I have used the CELL function for many years in the same file. recently it has stopped. I have tried to put the same formula in a new blank sheet and it will not work as well. I am using this function to return the last value that was typed into any cell of a sheet. Can you help why this has stopped working? The function is =CELL("Content")

    Try putting an "s" on the end of content.

    =CELL("contents")
