NTFS Permissions 2019 Server using AD Groups

We recently setup a Windows File server after having used other types of file servers like Netapp. I am finding the permissions really difficult to work with and things aren't working as I'd expect. I've only been doing this for 30 years so why I'm now having trouble I can only say is MS has added a feature to screw me up.

I am trying to add permissions for a Group. The permissions refuse to take effect. If I use a user account and set the permissions there is no issue. I'm thinking this is along the lines of how group permissions are horrible for Group Policies in AD. As in Microsoft is expecting me to reboot the server just to get group permission changes to take effect.

I'm using the Add-NTFSAccess module. If I use a group it doesn't work. A user works fine.

I rebooted my PC and that evaluated the group membership and it started to work.
