Hi,

I found a PNG file named Capture0 in my "recent files" list on my lap top.  It was a screen shot of an open spreadsheet in Excel and I never took the screenshot.

The file location is:

C:\Users\my username\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.WindowsFeedbackHub_[extended file name with numbers and letters]

I then searched for Capture0 within the path C:\Users\my username\AppData\Local and found several other screen shots of Excel screens going back to 2017 none of which I took.

Why are screenshots being taken, mainly of excel screens, without my knowledge and how are the used?  Who has had access to them?

Thanks

    Hi Ross,

They were not accidental screen shots and even if they were, it would not explain why they were saved in a hidden system file.  It has happened 6 times and each time there is a new file named Capture0 stored in a new folder in that path.  I regularly take and use screen shots for work so I am very familiar with how to take them and use them so that is why I am 100% certain I did not take and save those files. Something in Windows is taking the screen shot and placing then in the Feedback Hub files and I want to know if those files were sent to Microsoft without my permission.

C:\Users\my username\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.WindowsFeedbackHub_[extended file name with numbers and letters]

The main concern is that many people use Excel for financial information and would not like to find out that random screenshots of their work are being taken without their knowledge and consent and ending up in a folder named Microsoft Windows Feedback Hub.

After the screenshot was taken of my information contained in the Excel spreadsheet, which screenshot I did not authorize, who was it shared with?

    Hi,

I definitely did not click on the screenshot button and even if I did, it would not explain how the image ended up deep in a system folder

C:\Users\my username\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.WindowsFeedbackHub_[extended file name with numbers and letters]

I did not instigate the screenshots or save them in that folder.

    Thanks

Hello, my name is Marco and I am an Independent Advisor. I will do my best to help you.

You've probably clicked on a button that makes a screenshot of your page. There is indeed a function in excel for that.

In this case, possibly temporary files when Excel is run.

    Nothing dangerous I assure you.

Anyway, if you doubt, you can do an antivirus and antimalware scan of your computer ...
