Performance issues when connected to power

I am having this weird situation where, when I connect my laptop to power the performance drops down significantly. Games like Horizon 4 which work absolutely fine on battery, start lagging as soon as I connect it to power (the car turns/accelerates seconds after I press the keys).

Other normal tasks seem to work fine, browsing, Netflix etc.

I just reset my Laptop yesterday hoping that it would solve the issue but it didn't. Also I have enabled high performance mode and game mode.

None of this seems to work.

I am attaching a screenshot of my performance monitor report which ran when I connected my laptop to power.

The PC was completely idle and no apps were running in the background when I started the test.

Everything works fine on battery the problem only kicks in when I connect it to the external power brick.

    Hi Roscosmo,

I experienced the same issue with my laptop in the past & tried the steps from below link, however, everything was truly resolved when I bought an original compatible power adapter; the same scenario as mentioned below.

I can also see that Dell Inspiron 15 7000 is compatible with a 90w (19.5V/4.62A) power adapter & not 130 watts. Kindly liaise with Dell to confirm further.

Thank you for your reply. I use

    1. Dell Inspiron 15 7000 gaming laptop
    2. The stock adapter provided with it.

         Power: 130W

          Input at: AC 240V @ 2.5A

         Output at: 19.5V @ 6.7A

I might be wrong but if it were a hardware issue wouldn't I have the same problem regardless if I plug-in or use the battery power?

    Hi Roscosmo,

I'm Paul, a fellow customer like you & a Windows 10 Independent Advisor. That sounds like a hardware issue.

    • What is your laptop brand & model?

    • What is your power brick's brand, model, amps, volts?

Looking forward to your reply. Thank you!

    Sincerely,

    Paul A.
