Default PDF reader keeps switching to Edge

I have a computer in my organization that keeps switching the default PDF reader to Edge.   We have wiped the profile and rebuilt it, replaced the laptop with a new fresh image to no avail.   The users default PDF reader keeps switching from Adobe DC Pro to Edge.   We do not have any group policy controlling the default PDF reader and other users in the same OU do not have this issue.  It is isolated to this single user.    Has anyone else ran into this issue and have a fix?

I really shouldn't have to rename MicrosoftEdge.exe and MicrosoftPdfReader.exe to keep from having my chosen default reset!

While this is a solution, it's beyond what most users would feel comfortable doing.

And, yes, I did reset the default app for .PDF, the apps for which Acrobat Reader is the default, etc. many times.

I also did a couple runs of sfc and dism just to be sure the system was clean.

Thanks - it's always good to think about other ways, but I already tried this. It doesn't stick.

    Hi,

Something you might try if have not already, would be to right click on the file and select "Open With".. "Choose Another App"..

Click on "More Apps" at the bottom..

Click on "Look For More Apps On This PC" at the bottom..Then browse to the .exe (application) for the program you want to use..

Be sure to check the box to "Always Use **** To Op[en This File Type"..

Sometimes this seems to lock in the setting better..

The issue didn't go away, I just hadn't triggered it.

But it's NOT Windows or Office.

Outlook's bug that it keeps asking EVERY time I open an attachment whether I want to keep using the current default viewer setting was masking the real culprit.

The real culprit is ACDSee Ultimate 2020. Once I've opened a .jpg using ACDSee Ultimate 2020 as the default app, the PDF default gets reset to Edge.
