All I know is WS stands for “web services” for printing devices. Everyone says it was provided by Microsoft. I have two printer icons one has WS and the other does not have WS.  What is the Printer WS for? What does it do?

Thank you in advance.

It may have been installed first, as it will create Copy 1 if there's a reinstall or even a Windows Update for the Printer and it overwrites the first installed listing.

But the fact it's working is all that matters and I would leave the WS alone on the principle we try not to fix what isn't broken or isn't known to break things.

Let me know if there's anything else.

Hi Hey. I'm Greg, an installation specialist, 10 year Windows MVP, and Volunteer Moderator. If you will work with me I will be here to help until the issue is resolved.

The WS listing should be the network wireless print function, whereas the other is the USB connection (if you installed it that way) or another function. So try printing and scanning from the WS choice to see if it functions correctly.

To have the fullest functionality for the printer, be sure to install the full software package from the manufacturer's Support Downloads web page for your exact model. This will give you the choice to install via USB or wirelessly and help you set up each method, give you the ability to scan from the printer top to the PC which won't be present if you use only the basic Windows driver.

While downloading the latest driver software, check also for newer firmware which is essential to keeping the printer functioning well.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and keep me posted. If you will wait to choose if I resolved your problem, I will keep working with you until it's resolved.

But I have an icon for the Wi-Fi labeled as Canon MX 920 Series Printer (Copy 1). I downloaded all from the printer manufacturer website. And my printer works perfectly fine, wired or not.

Is that the reason why there is a (Copy 1) to my othe wi-fi printer icon? As I never use the WS as I do not know what it is.
