Hi, dear It's highly recommended you use Drive Redirection through Remote Desktop Services if you want to transfer files. Firstly, run command with Mstsc.exe. When the Remote Desktop Connection window appears, click the Show Options button at the bottom left of the window. On the Local Resources tab of Remote Desktop Connection, you can specify which kinds of devices and resources that they want to redirect to the remote computer. Now that drives on the local computer can be redirected in the session so that files can easily be transferred between the local computer and the remote computer. ![81636-image.png][1] In the meanwhile, you can edit client drive redirection by configuring a Microsoft Remote Desktop Services group policy setting for remote desktops and RDS hosts. Run command with gpedit.msc. In the Group Policy Editor, go to Computer Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Remote Desktop Services\Remote Desktop Session Host\Device and Resource Redirection. Secondly, you should check the rdpclip.exe on your remote computer with Task Manager to see if it is processing well. Cause Remote Desktop Clipboard is a Windows utility that allows users to manage a shared clipboard between a local host and remote desktop. This application runs on the remote PC and not on your local host. Run command with taskmgr.exe - Go to the Processes Tab - Select rdpclip.exe - Click End task ![81734-image.png][2] Go to the File tab - Click Run new task - Type rdpclip.exe - Click Ok ![81625-image.png][3]![81735-image.png][4] Although it's a known scenario. Somehow, transferring files by using copy and paste isn't working. After you mapped local computer drives for the remote desktop session, you could drag and drop instead of copy and paste then places the files on the local computer hosted by remote computer drives, as shown. ![81764-image.png][5] [1]: /api/attachments/81636-image.png?platform=QnA [2]: /api/attachments/81734-image.png?platform=QnA [3]: /api/attachments/81625-image.png?platform=QnA [4]: /api/attachments/81735-image.png?platform=QnA [5]: /api/attachments/81764-image.png?platform=QnA
why does remote desktop file copy freeze hang
I use Windows 10 to connect to multiple Windows 10 and Server 2012R2/2016 computers. I have not made any changes to the security settings on the computers or firewalls between them.
Recently, I have been unable to copy files between computers using RDP.
For example, I open the local computer's C: drive on the remote computer. I right click on the item I want to copy/move to the remote computer and it hangs. When I select cut from the file menu, it also hangs. Does not matter if the file is 5KB or 20MB.
Sometimes it even disconnects the local drive on the remote computer and it disappears from File Explorer.
Again this is recent, a couple week ago, this worked on all remote computers.
Anyone know how to correct this problem or have the same problem?
Thank you in advance!

2022-09-01T23:16:47.75+00:00 I have the same problem too. The person answering from Microsoft (Jingruihan-MSFT) obviously did not read the question properly before answering. The problem is that attempting to copy to TSCLIENT connected drive HANGS the RDP session.
- I can access the local drives (local resources) inside RDP session. Can view folder contents in explorer.
- When I try to drag file from remote computer's local disk to TSCLIENT exposed drive the "copying...." progress window appears, it shows some minimal progress and immediately hangs the whole RDP session.
