This last update took out my sound and some programs stopped working. Is there a way to turn off updates besides scheduling them a month out?

I agree, some updates can actually but not entirely mess up a functioning computer.

Not all updates are bad, there are updates that can also fix and enhance the performance of a Windows 10 machine. Sorry to hear about your computer and you had to go all through this. I am sure Microsoft is doing its best to fix any fault on updates that they deploy.

Yes...I understand this but microsoft needs to do their homework and stop causing the updates to mess with the realtek sound drivers. I have a hi dollar desktop and the updates render it useless. Then I have to call the Geek squad to fix it . In this time of Co vid pandemic trying to get ahold of Geek squad is basically useless. Had to set my system back a week to get it back.

Hi there Mikayles , I will be your Independent Advisor for today, I hope we can both resolve your problem.

Windows updates are needed for Windows 10, there is a way to only pause the only for 32 days. After that you will do to an update before you can pause it again.

Here is how to do it, on your keyboard tap on Windows key and X then click Settings, Choose Updates and Security, on Windows update on the right side scroll down and click on Advanced Options, scroll down to the bottom of the list and choose Pause updates.

Although it is not recommendable to turn if off permanently as updates are needed for your OS. It is under your discretion if you are going to do it on your PC.

    Hello Mikayles,

Using option 7 in the tutorial below to disable automatic Windows Updates with "WUA Manager" has been working well for most people.
