Invalid filenames during CHKDISK

Hi,

i stumbled upon an unaccessible folder containing invalid filenames while browsing my HDD [files containing colons ':'], and ran a disk check on my Windows 10. It seems to have deleted all the video files.

I'm now trying to recover these files. I tried running Photorec on the free unallocated space of the single main partition, but didn't find the video files.

Does CHKDISK write null bytes over deleted files, just for the sport of it ? Does it run some defragmentation on the hard drive ? Or could my files still be there, somewhere ?

Thanks !

Hi
I understand how difficult it is, when the device or app won't work in the way it should. I would suggest perform SFC and DISM tools. This command is to restore corrupted files. Check the link below.

Hope it will help.

Thanks for the support ! Files were located in the found.000 folder created by CHKDSK, only it was invisible to me, i had to uncheck 'Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)' in the folder viewing options, thanks !
