From Last week, SharePoint 2016 users cannot access sharepoint shortcuts using existing server name shortcuts.I noticed that if the shortcut Target contains server name instead of intranet name (AAM) it will not work or will ask for user credentials. Once I modified the Target to intranet name it directly works.Further if I access sharepoint from server name URL and I create a new shortcut from there, it works properly.

Please advise.

It seems that the shortcuts are working properly on both URLs, but the credentials have been expired for the existing server name shortcuts.

Have you added the URL which contains your server name and also the one contains intranet name to the Trusted Sites list of browser?
You can refer to the article here for the methods to avoid prompting for credentials: SharePoint Keeps Asking for Password Everytime?
If the issue remains, you might have to manually renew the existing server name shortcut URLs.
