Hi guys good morning.

I have an Azure VM with windows server, in it I have only 1 unmanaged disk with operating system .
Today this disk has a size of 150gb, but we are only using 50% of the space.
We have already reduced the volume by the operating system to 100Gb.
I would like to reduce the size on the azure portal to also reduce costs. However, when trying to reduce by disk management in azure, it says that it is not possible to reduce size, only increase.
Can anyone tell me if this procedure in this link below is safe and would be the correct one to reduce?

Or there is another recommended procedure, considering that it is a single disk with an operating system and all business data.

Yes, you cannot shrink a disk via the portal. Only option is the one you have linked, basically copying the contents to a new disk. The operation should be safe as you are just copying the contents over. However when working with production data I always recommend taking a backup in case things go wrong.

Hope this helps! Let us know if you run into any issues or have further questions.
