deleting web part giving an error

deleting web part giving an error

while deleting web part coming up with error.
I see message it is locked out. but how doe we know by whom it is locked out?
I navigated list settings-->advanced settings--> but there is no manged file check in version option to see who locked it.

Please help me on deleting web part and who locked it.

Open the subsite in SharePoint designer to find the default.aspx.

Hi @sns ,

From your screenshoot, the web part is a calendar list, in list, there is no Check in/Check out.

Please append ?contents=1 at the web part page url to check if you can delete the dedicated web part.

As a workaround, we could also close the web part in web part mainentance page:

Hi Wang,

Shall I delete the below highlighted web part? I tried to close but while deleting web part ( from edit page) still giving same error

is there any harm by deleting it?

Hi @sns ,

If you delete the web part, it will be completely removed from the page, no other harm.

If you close the web part, the web part will not be displayed on the page and will still exist in page maintenance, the value of "Open on Page" is "No".

Later, the closed web part could be added again from the "Closed web part" category.

Hi Wang,

I see open on page is OKAY opion but no NO option visible
and if I close also I am not able to delete the web part and still giving same error. and If I close it is visible on the page as well.
so how do we delete the web part now? as user want to delete it

Hi @sns ,

Normally, if you close the web part, it will show NO, and it is not visible on the page.

Since there are some issues on the source list that prevent you deleting it, it is necessary to check what is wrong with the source list.

You could also backup the source list, delete the list first, then delete the web part in this page.

Hi Wang,

it is not closed even I close based on below error message. That is why it is still showing on the page.
How to figure out who locked it and how to unlock it? and from where to unlock
Please suggest.

I could reproduce your issue if the page has been checked out:

Please go to the page library which store the web part page, find the user who check out the page:

Then discard check out or check in the page, refresh the page, delete the web part again to comapre the result.
