Edit form not coming up after uploading document in SharePoint Online Library.

I have a SharePoint Online site with a standard document library with additional custom columns. After uploading a document into this library I was expecting the edit form to come up so that I may enter values into the custom columns. Unfortunately, it did not show up. I researched online and sources say, as a workaround until Microsoft fixes the problem, to turn off the Modern UI Experience in the Site Features and Library Advanced settings. I did that and it still does not work as expected. Does anyone know of another workaround?

Hello anonymous user-7489 ,

By design, you aren't prompted for required information when you upload a file to a SharePoint Online library using the new experience version(modern mode).

As a workaround, I suggest you switch the Document library to classic mode or disable new experience feature at the site collection level. Then, upload document by clicking Upload button instead of drag-drop document.

Please following steps:

1.Switch the Document library to the Classic mode, click the Settings icon in the upper right corner, and then select Edit page

2.On the Editing page, click "Add a Web Part" link to add a ScriptEditor webpart

3.On the ScriptEditor webpart, click "EDIT SNIPPET" and apply the this code.

4.Click Stop Editing to exit edit.

@Echo Du_MSFT I believe I stated that I disabled the Modern UI Experience and changed the setting on the library to use the classic experience in my post and that did not work for me.

Doesn’t the Edit Form pop up even when you click the Upload button?

1.Please set the column as a required field. In my test, I set the Type column as a required field.

2.Then, click the Upload button. When you upload a document, the Edit Form will pop up.

Thank you @Echo Du_MSFT . Through testing and retesting, I found out why the workaround that I stated in my post did not work. The workaround only works if the Site Collection was created as a "Classic Experience" rather than a default SharePoint Online "Teams" site collection.

If the site collection was created as a "New Experience" site collection then turning off the new experience site features and reverting to classic experience would do nothing. The site collection needs to be created as a "Classic Experience" from the beginning.

To create a "Classic Experience" site collection:

Go to the SharePoint Online Admin Center

Go to Active Sites

Click "Create"

Choose "Other Options"

Under choose template, select "More Templates"

In the "Collaboration" tab, select "Team site (classic experience)"

Fill out the rest of the form

Click "Ok"

After creating the "Classic Experience" site collection, go to the site's Site Collection Features and "Activate" the SharePoint Lists and Libraries Experience to turn off the new SharePoint Lists and Libraries experience.
Go to the library and switch to "Classic Experience" in the Library Advanced Settings
