Xamarin Profiler (Mac): "Runtime installed on device ... is too old."

We're developing a cross-platform mobile library and app using Visual Studio 2019 for Mac (8.9.5 build 4). I'm trying to profile the app on my Android devices using Xamarin Profiler 1.6.13-11, but I'm getting the error "Runtime installed on device <device> is too old. Deploy your app again with a newer version of Xamarin Studio." I have five phones and two tablets, and I get the error for all of them. Obviously, we're using VS (not Xamarin Studio) and checking for updates says it is fully up to date. Anyone know how to resolve this?

This is a known issue reported here but it was closed due to the lower priority.

You can report this problem again on Developer Community to raise the priority .

Is there a workaround for this? I am running into the same issue with latest Android emulator.

I would also be interested in a workaround; the Xamarin Profiler is a vital part of VS for Mac Enterprise for which we are currently paying, and this issue completely hinders my ability to troubleshoot performance issues.

For future reference and help debugging, I was eventually able to get the profiler working when attached to a Lenovo Phab2 Pro running Android 6.0.1; I'm guessing Xamarin only supports certain CPU architectures or Android versions which includes this older device. Obviously we would prefer to profile devices that more closely match what our customers are using, but this at least gave us a way to identify retain cycles.

Extremely frustrated. We purchased Enterprise for the Xamarin Profiler. Poor documentation. Software doesn't work. We have the same issue. Error occured on run com.companyname Runtime installed on device pixel_2_pie_9_0_-_api_28 is too old. Deploy your app again with a newer version of Xamarin Studio
