Good afternoon:

I have a question about Bitlocker's drive encryption and automatic unlocking.

If the computer has two hard drives C: and D:, the first used for the Operating System and the second to save data. Is it possible to enable encryption with automatic unlock only on data (D :)?

I don't know if exist a limitation, because if I encrypt the operating system drive (C:) I can unlock automatically the other drive (D:), but if I encrypt the second drive (D: ) only, when I loggin it asks me every time for the key to access it.

Thanks,

Best regards

@Lábaru Cantabro
Hi,
No I don't think it can be done.
Indeed, Windows will not allow you to enable auto-unlock on a fixed drive when the system partition is not encrypted (with BitLocker).
You could refer to the following official article as your reference:
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/powershell/module/bitlocker/enable-bitlockerautounlock?view=windowsserver2019-ps
After a user unlocks the operating system volume, BitLocker uses encrypted information stored in the registry and volume metadata to unlock any data volumes that use automatic unlocking.

Hope above information can help you.
