Azure ML Notebook Python kernel never loads

Hello,

I'm working through mslearn examples. I created a Workspace and a Compute instance based on provided specs [Standard_DS11_v2 (2 cores, 14 GB RAM, 28 GB disk)]

The compute instance deploys and runs fine. I tried to open a terminal to clone the dp100 examples, but the terminal always fails, even with the compute instance selected. I tried restarting the compute instance and the terminal never loaded.

Parallel to that, when I create an ML Studio notebook, the compute instance says its running, but the Python 3.6 kernel never loads so I can't run cells from the Notebook. However, if I open the contents of the Notebook in the Jupyter editor it runs fine.

I was able to run the git clone code using the above, but I'd like to understand why the notebooks and terminal aren't working as they should be.

Hello,

Sorry for the experience. I just did some research and I saw some of the customers were in the same boat with this VM. Could you please try another VM for testing to see if the VM is the issue? I am investigating on my side and will let you know.

Thank you. I tried creating a F4s_v2 Compute instance. It created fine and is running.

Under Notebooks, neither the Terminal will connect nor will notebooks connect to the Python 3.6 kernel. I tried to select the Python 3.8 kernel and it looked like it tried to connect but it remained grayed out.

In the hamburger menu of the Notebook, the "Kernel operations" item is grayed out.

Could this be a bug with Azure Notebooks? If I open the Notebook in the Jupyter editor, everything works as expected and I can run the code in the cells.

Something changed today in Notebooks. I didn't change anything, have been using the F4S-v2 compute instance since my last update. Now, when I open a Notebook, the Python kernel loads without a glitch. And the terminal loads fine now.

Seems like it was a bug because nothing changed in my ML service workspace.

And the kernel isn't loading again. As far as I can tell nothing changed in the environment. Did you manage to track down any reasons I can look into why the python kernel fails to load in AML Notebooks?
