Hi,
web app https://view.officeapps.live.com/op/view.aspx is great to view small excel documents without downloading to local machine. As documents might have sensitive data we would like to understand how data is cached/secured on server side:

  • how long data is cached?
  • is document content is encrypted?
Microsoft Office Online Server
Microsoft Office Online Server
Microsoft on-premises server product that runs Office Online. Previously known as Office Web Apps Server.

    Hi @Donaldas Ivanauskas

    1. As said in this article "Manage the Office Web Apps cache", "By default, the cache expiration period is 30 days."
Based on my research, documents live in the cache until they become unpopular. That is, the cache is not time-based but rather is based on available space ("Space available in bytes to render documents. By default, when you install Office Web Apps on a stand-alone server or a server farm, the cache available to render documents is 100 GB (1073741824 in bytes)") and usage. Unpopular files may expire out of the cache in only a few days while popular documents may remain in the cache for up to 30 days.
    2. For question 2, the reply of Michael Herzfeld in this thread may help to some degree.
