Hi all

I have one client and they configure the same DNS option 6 on both server option and scope option in Windows DHCP server .

If they are the same DNS server IPs, is there any reason to configure on both server option and scope option?
especially, if a DNS server is changed, it needs to be changed on each scope.

Thank you for your help.

    Hi,

Server options will make changes to all scopes while Scope options will make changes to just that individual scope.

If the DNS option are the same for all scopes, then it is preferable to use server options. If a DNS server is changed, the change is only made in one place at the server options instead of changing on each scope.

In addition, if there is a conflict between server and scope, then the scope options will take precedence. That means scope option will override server option.

Hope this can help you understand better. If there is anything unclear, please feel free to let me know.

    Best Regards,
    Candy
