System shows wrong computer model

I own two Dell XPS 13 laptops. Both are running Windows 10 2004. One is a 9345 model and the other a 9370. The 9345 got into such a state that I decided to rebuild it from scratch. In recovery mode, all types of reset failed to work and so I used a media recovery USB created on the 9370 machine. I have recently noticed that the 9345 system page shows the computer as a Dell XPS 9370.

I am surprised that the computer type is not picked up from the hardware and not carried forward in the media creation, as seems to be the case. Device and Product ID's are correct.

Is there anyway I can correct this error? Maybe a reg edit?

Thank you

Ian

Thanks for reaching out! I'm an Independent Advisor and a Microsoft user like you.

Let me help you out. It's really frustrating when things don't work the way it's supposed to.

Since the steps involved registry editing, please make sure to do a Backup of your registry first. Kindly go to Windows Logo and type regedit > open Registry Editor > On the Registry Editor window, Click on Computer on the left pane> Click File> Click Export> Enter a Name> choose a location to save a backup of your registry and Click Save.

Once that is done, check on this link for the additional steps needed

I hope this helps. Stay Safe!

    Hi Gian,

you are spot on. I edited the OEM info in the registry and after a reboot the model number shown in System info is now correct. Incidentally there was a second entry under software WPS Office that also showed the incorrect model number, not that this affects the Sys Info page.

Thanks for you quick and accurate help.

    Regards

    Ian
