OneDrive - Items randomly changed to cloud only?

We have some users that have a lot of files synced with Onedrive from both personal onedrive and sharepoint file libraries

We have files on demand enabled. Sometimes items that were previously locally downloaded change to cloud only.

What could make a file change from having a local copy to cloud only? We have advised the users to right click and select "always keep on this device" for files they may need to access while offline

but we're unsure what rules/reasons a file would go from having a local copy to being cloud only over other files that seem to always have a local copy? What would cause this behavior?

    Hi @Matthew P ,

Considering that Files On-Demand have been enabled in OneDrive, the users still have to check Storage settings on their computers. Storage sense can make content that you haven’t access after certain amount time in the OneDrive folder available online-only(Content flagged as "Always keep on this device" will not be affected).

    • Open Storage settings via system search.

    • Click Configure Storage Sense or run it now.

    • Under Locally available cloud content section, use the drop-down menu and select when content should become available online-only. You can set it to Never if you never want the files to become online-only.
