How do I remove this?

    Thanks again!  I may be naive, but the common trait in both cases would appear to indicate that the problem has its roots in program launching rather than just a bad download.  That would explain why reinstalling does not work...

    Thx for your suggestion!  One of the links in the referenced article is for Recuva, a free file/folder recovery tool.  Sounded good, so I downloaded and upon running got the same error message re COMDLG32.dll received when I tried to launch iTunes.  I still have other options contained in the article so hope springs eternal!
