Computer Won't Boot Windows 10 After Upgrading CPU

Yesterday I upgraded my cpu from a Ryzen 3 2200 to a Ryzen 7 3700x. The BIOS picks it up, but very time I've tried to start since, I've gotten a BSoD, with a variety of errors like KMODE EXCEPTION NOT HANDLED, SYSTEM THREAD EXCEPTION NOT HANDLED, and IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL. They all appear to be driver related, but every time it lists a different driver as the problem. Eventually, I tried to reinstall windows from a flashdrive, but that also led to a similar bluescreen. At this point I have no idea what the problem could be, and I can't find any other cases of it online.

Yes, has to be and at least it should be under warranty.

I tried that, and it once again automatically started the windows repair sequence, only this time it actually allowed me to reinstall windows, and log in, rather than blue screening. However, once I switched back to the new cpu, the original problem returned. I would think that means the source of the problem is the new cpu.

Hi OwenJohnsonHW, I am Rob, an independent and a 14 time and dual award MVP specializing in Windows troubleshooting and Bluescreen analysis. Please remember as independents we are not responsible for the development of Windows or the computer hardware and drivers. If you will work with me I will be here to help until the issue is resolved.

The BIOS coming up does not mean there is no CPU or other related hardware issue.

Assuming the copy of Windows on the flash drive is functioning as it should (and it probably is from all of your description of the issue) there is a hardware problem.

Either the CPU itself has an issue, there is a problem with the installation (not likely), or the installation caused something to fail on the motherboard that is CPU related. Possibly, during the CPU switch, something else was jarred.

Have you tried putting the original CPU back in?

    Here to help,

    Rob
