Why can't I turn off notifications when assigning tasks to people on Tasks by Planner and To Do?

All the support material I have read is about the 'Planner' App, which I presume 'Tasks by Planner and To Do' has replaced.

It says to click on the 3 dots in the app top right and go to settings - but on this app this does not exist so it's irrelevant now!

My colleagues do not want to receive an email or activity notification every time I assign them a task, they just want to see them when they go into the app themselves. Please can someone help me turn off these notifications?!

    You are right.

    I guess you refer to this article to manage Planner notification. This setting is configured in Planner client. You should log in Planner and open your plan. Then edit notification of this Plan as below.

    Besides, if you use Planner in Teams, additional notifications are provided by Teams, where they can also be managed.
