Documents linked with desktop?

I tried moving my documents folder to a new location, in a new drive-through property> location > move. For some reason it linked to my desktop as well, so now my desktop displays the contents in my documents folder. Deleting items on my desktop deletes items from my documents folder. How do I completely reset these system folders? I have already tried "restore default location" but this has not unlinked the folders from each other.

When I open the properties for my documents, it displays as desktop properties.

I see. Because taking ownership may break the stuff, I suggest you to create a new user account and move the data later.

Add a new local account first, make it admin, move the data over to the new account and then convert the local account to MS one.

Thanks. Can you please check if you can rename from

    C:/Users/<Username>/Desktop?

I wonder if the regedit messed it up more :)

I completed the registry edit. it has unlinked the documents and desktop, however, my documents folder is now called Dekstop (it has the documents icon).

    Hi Tharen,

Another approach to fix this would be to do a system restore if a point is available.
