How to Disable Predictive Text Feature When Composing Emails in Microsoft Outlook Mail?

Hi,

Just recently while I've been making emails in outlook I'll get some grey text that appears in front of the characters I've actually typed out and there is a little tab key icon at the end of the greyed text that completes the sentence with the greyed out suggested text included if I press tab. I was wondering how to turn off this predictive text feature when typing? I think an odd sign-out situation occurred recently where my original settings for outlook were returned to the default, which then started this annoying phrase guessing feature. I've disabled text suggestions on my laptop settings but I still have get the text suggestions on outlook mail. Settings for outlook itself hasn't shown anything that might control predictive text either, so I'm not sure how to turn the feature off.

Thanks

Hi, Rashane. Thanks for reaching out! I'm an Independent Advisor and a Microsoft user like you, and I am here to work with you on this issue.

Here's how you can disable it, Rashane:

Settings > Mail > Compose and reply > Offer suggestion based on keywords in my messages

I hope this helps! Please let me know if that works for you, ok?

    Hey Leonardo,

That did it! Thank you very much for the help and adding the picture as well. I didn't notice the larger settings menu that showed general, mail, etc. before.

    I appreciate it!

Hi, I am having the exact same trouble, but your solution doesn't solve the problem for me. When I go to settings, my screen does not look like that. Its a white screen instead with many options, none of which are "mail" which then lead to "layout". Instead mine says Accounts, of which email is under, and when I go there, there is no such obvious option of "quick suggestions" to turn off. Instead I get led to "typing" where I did turn off "show text suggestions as I type on the software keyboard". Even though this option is turned off, it still fills in suggestions when I am typing in my email like the above person says. Its just an annoying feature that messes with my train of thought. I also saw somewhere else that it was turned off in the hardware section as well I believe. Please help, its so distracting and interruptive.

    Thank you

To turn off predictive text in Outlook 365, go to "File" > "Settings".  Click the "Mail" tab and under the "Compose messages" section there is a checkbox for "Show text predictions while typing".  Uncheck it.

Such an annoying feature on desktop software, especially if you can type more than 50 wpm.  It just throws me off.
