Hi there, I have a site that I am slowly phasing out their 2011 SBS server. Everything has been moved off it, I have two new 2019 AD servers installed in the domain. About 2 years ago, we migrated over to 365 so with the Azure AD Sync program on our new DC, all passwords and such are synchronized.

I want to remove the SBS 2011 server entirely. I have some questions regarding this old server.

  1. What are the repercussions of removing that Exchange server (part of SBS 2011)?
  2. Will I lose functionality with the Azure link between AD and 365?

    @JB306yxe

    Do you using a hybrid organization?

    In a hybrid organization, if you want to uninstall Exchange serer, you also need to uninstall AAD connect. If you want to keep AD sync, you need to remain at least one Exchange on-premises server.

    For more detailed information, you can have a look about this article(I think it is same to SBS server): How and when to decommission your on-premises Exchange servers in a hybrid deployment
