Windows Server 2019 Essentials Activation

I purchased a new server that didn't come with server software. If I install the evaluation copy of Windows Server 2019 Essentials, create shares, users, and install apps, can I purchase a license a week later and convert the evaluation copy to licensed, Or do I have to start all over again by reinstalling the Server OS?

    Hello @Pete Christensen

I would also suggest to activate it first .
For Windows Server 2016 Essentials: You can convert to the full retail version by entering a retail, volume license, or OEM key in the command slmgr.vbs.

I'd recommend to patch it fully, then do the activation as next step.
