you are not alone. It's a bug with Microsoft update.
I have bought a top of the line HP gaming laptop and have the same issue, and yet my 4 year old HP desktop at work updated without problems.
A. It should tell us what compatibility issue it is withholding the update for
B. It should allow the user to bypass the default and install anyway
I didn't pay for windows 10 licensing so that some underpaid MS engineer missing a checkbox prevents me from updating the OS. It's my device, my license, and should be my decision.
Edit:
confirmed this is a windows update bug. I updated windows as follows:
- take a windows restore point as a backup
- Download update assistant from (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10)
- Run the exe file
Once I did that, update assistant said the laptop is fully compatible with the new version of windows and updated to it without problems. So basically windows update claimed the laptop wasn't ready for the update but the update advisor said it was 100% compatible and the update installed. So it was a bug all along.
