Adding notes field from assigned task to workflow email when task is rejected

I'm working with Sharepoint 2013 and would like to be able to bring in the Notes field from my assigned task to an email within my workflow so that my request creators know why an item is rejected. This seems to be the only field I cannot correctly identify within the "field from source" lookup string. Has anyone successfully done this or have suggestions?

    @Rachel Sloan

    What is the type of "Notes" column?

    Based on your description, I understand you create a "Notes" column in the list, then in the task action of a workflow, you cannot find the "Notes column" in the "Field of source".

    Per my test, when I create a multiple lines of text column, then I can find "Notes" column in the "Field of source".

    Please restart the SharePoint Designer, then have a test, compare the result.
