Windows 10 missing repaints

I'm seeing many applications missing their screen repaints, e.g., popup menus come up blank until I mouse over them, Explorer selection not painted when I click on an item, Event Viewer not repainting after a scroll unless I resize the frame, etc.

Basically same problem as described in 2017's https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/windows-10-issue-screen-is-not-redrawn-properly/d0fcf284-0066-4fa0-b8f8-54f93e9a7d32, except that I am running a single monitor.  I believe this started when I upgraded to an HP 34F Curved (3440 x 1440 - very large pixel count).  CPU utilization is low; number of apps open can be as low as one.

Observe if the problem recurs, if you need to write back here!

A clean installation of Windows can also solve the problem!

I'm sure your answer can help other users with the same problem!

Stay safe! I wish you the best!

I'm not able to reproduce the problem this evening. - this afternoon I had it for several hours across a couple of restarts. Last thing I tried this afternoon was a run of 'SFC /SCANNOW' and then a safe boot at network level with all non-MS services disabled. That env did not exhibit the problem (though resolution there was only ~ 1280 x 1024).  I have now done the dism cleanup, as you suggested.

Drivers are up-to-date.  The link solutions refer to MS fixes from 2017 or multiple monitors, so not applicable.

So, when and if this recurs, I will check:

    • Does a lower resolution fix the problem
    • Is there a non-MS service causing the problem (disable one by one, I guess)
    • Does it occur in a new, clean account on this machine

    Thanks.
