Hello, so my computer recently blue screened and I received the Driver Overran Stack Buffer. Not to sure what I may have done to do this, I mainly play video games and watch youtube. I was watching a youtube video whenever it happened, I tried looking up solutions and will continue to. Any help would be appreciated. I can give more details if needed.

Hello, so I had been blue screening for awhile getting different error codes such as DRIVER OVERRAN BUFFER STACK BUFFER. Well I was looking for solutions and came across checking my driver's using the driver verifier in system 32. After beginning my driver verifier and restarting my computer would load into the same blue screen error saying DRIVER VERIFIER DETECTED VIOLATION". I have no way of getting into my computer as it's constantly restarting after my first motherboard screen.its my first pc and I'm scared as hell, any help would be appreciated.

Edit: I would honestly love to hard wipe my computer and completely start from scratch if that's an option as well.

    Hi MemphisToledo

I am Dave, an Independent Advisor, I will help you with this . . .

If this was a one-off crash, then you do not need to worry, Windows 10 was probably updating a driver in the background and that caused an incompatibility, that would have resolved itself after the restart

If this is an ongoing problem, please check to see if your PC is producing any minidump files, I will check those to see if they provide any insight into a potential cause of the system crashes . . .

    Open Windows File Explorer

    Navigate to C:\Windows\Minidump

Copy any minidump files onto your Desktop, then zip those up

Upload the zip file to the Cloud (OneDrive, DropBox . . . etc.), then choose to share those and get a share link

Then post the link here to the zip file, so we can take a look for you . . .

    Hi ion-i,

Check to see if KB5000802 has re-installed itself.  I had problems with this update as well.

I had problems while trying to install that update.   After it would install, it tried to install again.

And the restarts after it was installed, would never finish.

I was able to finally reach a point where I could run "wushowhidediag.cab", to prevent it from

    trying to re-install.

If yours has re-installed, you might try uninstalling it again, and when it re-presents itself,

run "wushowhide" to hide the update.

Wushowhide is a Microsoft program, but is not available at the Microsoft download sites

now. It is still possible to download it from Major Geeks.   https://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/wushowhide.html

It runs just fine, and I don't know why Microsoft has stopped offering it.

There is quite a write up regarding it at Major Geeks.  Try it if you need to.

    Good luck,  Glen

Hi MemphisToledo, I am Rob, an independent and a 15 time and dual award MVP specializing in Windows troubleshooting and Bluescreen analysis. Please remember as independents we are not responsible for the development of Windows or the computer hardware and drivers. If you will work with me I will be here to help until the issue is resolved.

Most often DV causing a lockup indicates a hardware issue, however, there are exceptions.

Use Safe Mode to disable Driver Verifier.

Start your PC in safe mode in Windows 10

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/12376/...

WINKEY + X - RUN - type in -> verifier /reset hit enter to disable

If DriverVerifier creates a minidump upload it and post the link here so we can analyze it.

    =======

Though I will be happy to analyze the minidumps the odds are they will not help much on a new home build.

    A. Are you overclocking anything? If so STOP! OC can not only cause BSOD it can make troubleshooting virtually impossible.

    B. Have you installed any performance or OC software such as MSI Afterburner, AMDRyzenMaster. Intel's Extreme Tuning or Performance Maximizer, or CPU-Z? Some of those and others change system settings during installation which are still in effect even when the program is not running. Even iCUE or other RGB hardware and/or software may be involved.

    C. After both A. & B. reset the BIOS back to the system/motherboard maker's recommendations.

    D. Be sure the SSD's have the latest firmware from their makers.

    E. Try removing and reseating all cards, memory, and cables (both ends when possible) - actually remove and replace - do not just snug (on a PC) and clean out the dust bunnies and vents. (Of course remove ALL power prior to opening the case.) <-- Please do this as it is the number one cause of the issues you are experiencing (by far).

    F. Try adding a fan blowing on high onto the motherboard's CPU & GPU areas. The point is to increase airflow to maximize heat dissipation. <-- Please do this no matter how much cooling you have now.

Troubleshoot blue screen errors <-- read this link

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/t...

Look in C:\Windows for memory.dmp and in C:\Windows\minidump for xxxxxxxxx.dmp files.

We can analyze the DMP files if you make them available from the OneDrive or other file-sharing sites (such as MediaFire). If you have problems uploading the minidumps copy them to the Desktop or the Documents folder and upload them from there.

One-Drive - Share files and folders and change permissions

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/onedrive/sha...

    Upload photos and files

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/onedrive/add...

Zip or RAR the files then upload them - the Memory.DMP individually and/or minidumps up to the last 5 all together.

Use OneDrive to upload collected files https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/uplo...

    =======

A Clean Install would be activated with the Digital Entitlement.

Use the Windows 10 Media Creation Tool to create a USB Drive. <-- Click the "Download tool now" button which will give you the latest available version
