hi. this was working just fine until yesterday that i realized i wasn't able to access any share resource over the network, not for my hyper-v VMs or via VPN to some customer site.

basically i don't get the prompt for credentials. and if i telnet IP 445, i can access the service.

my OS is 10.0.19042

SMB1 is enabled

i'm pretty sure this behavior started after some updates applied recently.

Firewall profiles are OFF for my local and remote machines

any tip?

thanks.

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

We understand the concern as you are unable to access any share resource over the network, not even Hyper-V VMs or via VPN to some site.

Let us try a few steps and check.

Step 1: Run the Internet Connection Troubleshooter

Select the Start    button, and then select Settings>Update & SecurityTroubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters, and then from the list select Internet Connection & Network adapter > Run the troubleshooter.

    Step 2: Reset TCP IP

    1. On the Start screen, type CMD. In the search results, right-click Command Prompt, and then select Run as administrator.
    2. At the command prompt, enter the following command, and then press Enter: netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt Note: If you don't want to specify a directory path for the log file, run the following command instead: netsh int ip reset
    3. Restart the computer.

    Step 3: Check DNS Settings

    • Click on Search, type CMD, Run Command Prompt as Administrator.
    • In the Command Prompt window, typeipconfig /flushdns
    • Press Enter.

I would also suggest you to change the DNS and check if webpages load.

    1. Press Windows logo key + R, to open Run dialog box.
    2. Type ncpa.cpl and click on OK.
    3. Now, right click on the connection that you are using and click on Properties.
    4. Double click on Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4).
    5. Click on Use the following DNS server addresses, and enter 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4.

Also, try the troubleshooting steps referred in this article: Fix network connection issues in Windows and check if it works.

However, for concern/queries related to accessing shared files and VPN connection, let me help to point you in the right direction. I would suggest you to post your query in Q&A Forum where you will find professionals with expertise on VPN connection and that would be the appropriate forum.

    Regards,

hi Aditya, thanks for your answer. Unfortunately none of the steps helped.

I've raised the question to Q&A Forum.

    Thanks,
