Today I received an email confirmation of a 799.99 Coinbase purchase via Paypal which I did not make. I called the number provided and spoke to someone who tried to get me to download Supremo, I refused. After some consternation she claimed the charge would be reversed, I am closely watching financial sites to be sure I am not charged.

You shouldn't have called the number, but since you didn't give them any way to

charge you (Credit Card, Debit Card, etc.) you should be safe.

Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

Tech support scams are an industry-wide issue where scammers use scare tactics to trick you into paying for unnecessary technical support services that supposedly fix contrived device, platform, or software problems.

Scammers may call you directly on your phone and pretend to be representatives of a software company. They can then ask you to install applications that give them remote access to your device. Then can send you phishing emails and ask for money to provide you support.

We understand how important your privacy is, in such cases Microsoft takes its commitments seriously to protect and maintain the privacy of its customer’s data, and to empower its customers to implement and use its services in a protected manner. If you have been contacted by someone claiming to be from Microsoft and believe it was a scam, you can help us stop these fraudsters by using this form to report all the information regarding your interaction with them.

You can Report a technical support scam here

However, let me also provide some useful information which might help you and other users

Regards,

Aditya Roy
