Win 10 Object Name

Win 10 Device Manager has a device with an exclamation mark and the error Could not start (Code 10) Object name already used. What exactly is the object name? I am guessing that I need to search the registry for the duplicate. Removing and reinstalling has not corrected the issue.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

I believe in this case you should use the Class GUID and Class Name properties to identify it.

The other ports work properly and I have tried removing and reinstalling the entire device several times.

The question, again, is What property of the device is the "Object Name" so that I can search the registry for the "in use" instance?

    Object Name = ????

    Thanks for the information.

In this case, are the other ports still working normally?

Try right-clicking and uninstalling the driver from all ports and after that restart Windows, I believe Windows will try to reinstall the whole card again.

I will collect the information you have requested but can I infer that Object Name = Hardware ID? The device is a 4 port USB to serial adapter that had been working on this same laptop and the other three ports are still working fine. I don't remember when it first misbehaved but there have been several Windows updates since then but no driver updates from the manufacturer.

I just looked and the Hardware ID is the same on all 4 ports:

    Hello Eric, how are you?

My name is Paloma B., I am very happy to be able to try to help you in the best possible way.

This is an open community, whenever you need you can share the problem so that possible repairs are suggested.

Could you give more information about the problem, please?

What is the make and model of your computer? Press Windows+R, type msinfo32 and click OK, then share a screenshot of that screen.

Please also share the hardware ID of this object with error.

Right-click on it in Device Manager and select Properties, then go to Details tab, under properties, select Hardware IDs, copy the first row of ID and share please, or a screenshot of that screen too.
