OneNote tags disappear in summary pane

For OneNote for Desktop 2016 Microsoft® OneNote® for Microsoft 365 MSO (16.0.13929.20222) 64-bit

The "tag viewer" has lost the ability to display all my tags, it stops at tag 29 (I have 100 tags). However, if I open the "Customize" viewer, all 100 tags are there. If I move a tag's position in the "Customize" viewer, it does not show the change in the "tag viewer".
Also, the CTL hold plus click OneNote icon does not open the Safe Mode.
Other functionality appears to be intact, notebooks are all synced with OneDrive.

I tried renaming the cache folder as suggested in other threads but this did not help.

If I need to reinstall OneNote for Desktop, can I save a copy of the current cache and then just substitute it for the default installed cache to retrieve my old tags?

Any help most appreciated, Txs!

    Hi @John Boronow ,

Is there any error message when using OneNote?
If there is, please provide a screenshot of it or describe it in detail.

    > if I open the "Customize" viewer, all 100 tags are there.

<< What do you mean by "Customize" viewer? How do you open it?

    > Also, the CTL hold plus click OneNote icon does not open the Safe Mode.

<< Based on my test, OneNote may not be opened in safe mode.

Please make sure to uncheck Show only unchecked items option and check if the range selected in the drop-down list of Search is correct.

Besides, you may try the following.

    1. Create a new tag/some new tags to check this issue.
    2. Copy the content with this issue to a new section to have a check.

By the way, you could make a backup of the cache folder before reinstalling OneNote to avoid unnecessary issues.

Any updates, please let me know.

Thanks for your f/u. So I tried your suggestions about turning off/on indexing, restarting Search, etc. No joy...

Here is the screen shot of the "Customize" view, when you click on the "Customize Tags" button at the bottom of the Tags scroll bar. My problem is that I have 100 tags, which are all display in this the "Customize Tags" view, but only 29 of them display in the Tags selection drop down, so I cannot actually select the other 71 tags. I can still add/edit tags successfully in the "Customize Tags" view, however. They are "there", as it were. But not available/displaying in the actual "Tags" drop down.
