Changing default app for opening GIF

Windows 10 Home version 20H2, Irfanview image viewing/editing program Version 4.58 - 64 bit

How do I set Irfanview as the default App for opening GIF images? When I attempted to change the default app setting in
"Choose default apps by file type" in Settings, Irfanview isn't included on the list of program choices.

The version of Windows 10 that I have on my desktop pc has an option to choose another program when choosing the default program, but for some inexplicable reason the version of Windows 10 that I have on my laptop doesn't have this useful and essential option.

My problem is that the 'change' button in properties doesn't exist for .jpg files, so I can do anything to select a default app.

Thanks for the info. After rebooting my computer I was able to select Irfanview from the list of default programs for GIF's.

    Hi DevinXM

I am Dave, I will help you with this.

    Open IrfanView

Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc)

Select the processes Tab in Task Manager, then find IrfanView

Right click that process and select 'Open File Location'

Noe down the location of the IrfanView executable

Close File Explorer and Task Manager.

Find any Gif file on your PC, right click that file and select Properties

Click the 'Change Button on the resulting dialog

If IrfanView does not appear in the list, scroll down and click 'More Apps'

If Irfan View does not appear in the resulting list, scroll down and click 'Look for another app on this PC', then navigate to find IrfanView in the location you noted down earlier.
