Why does my C drive space decrease when I mount an ISO image via Daemon Tools Lite?

Hello! The day before yesterday, I discovered that when mounting a 20 GB ISO file downloaded from the Internet using Daemon Tools Lite, I was losing space on the C drive somewhere. I have Windows 10 21H2.

Now I have 110 GB free, before that I had 115-120 GB free.

I have already asked a similar question on a Russian-language forum, but everywhere they advise me to reinstall the system.

What do i do?

Thank you! Today I launched Folder Size Explorer with admin rights and for the sake of interest I looked into the ProgramData folder, and there the Kaspersky Lab folder (13 GB) turned out to be the heaviest. I decided to go into it, then into the AVP21.3 subfolder, then into Temp (10 GB), then into tempio, and there are 1108 files, of which 1100 were created on February 9, 2022. I suspect that it was Kaspersky that did something to me. I decided to delete the folder as shown in this video:

No need to perform a clean install yet. If needed, you can perform an an-in-place upgrade. Have you tried to mount it with File explorer? Have you used Treesize?

    Please keep me updated.

    Thank you

I forgot to add: when I tried to mount this file in ISO format twice the day before yesterday, Daemon Tools Lite slowed me down when I tried to open it. I did not tolerate these "brakes" and tried to disable it through the Task Manager, but he could not complete it either. As a result, I had to restart the laptop completely. After all this, I noticed that the free space on the C drive became 110 GB (it used to be 115-120 GB). Because of what it could be? And what to do? I do not plan to reinstall Windows yet.

    Hi DruiDkrit,

I'm Dyari. Thanks for reaching out. I will be happy to assist you in this regard.

When you mount an ISO file, the mounted size will be increased compared with the actual ISO file size but not as much as you mentioned that it has covered almost
10GB. However, try to mount your ISO with File Explorer or Powershell and check if it takes the same size or not:

My ISO image is stored on drive D. Now I tried to mount it as you said, the free space on drive C decreased by 2 GB in 5 minutes, but after 2-3 minutes it increased by the same number of gigabytes. However, the ISO image was mounted for me.

"When you mount an ISO file, the mounted size will be increased compared with the actual ISO file size but not as much as you mentioned that it has covered almost
    10GB. "

Is it on the C drive? Is there any way to clean up the mount data of an ISO image?

You can also download and run this free Treesize tool as administrator in order to determine what is taking up the space on your drive:
