windows 10, touchpad driver code 10

Hello,
I am really struggling with my touchpad, as it will intermittently stop working all together and I am left disabling and reenabling the driver until it works, sometimes this requires 10+ restarts. I have a HP pavilion x360 running windows 10.
Things I have tried

  • restarting the computer
    • this seems no more effective than disabling/reenabling the driver, works maybe 1 in 10 times
  • Updating windows
    • since this problem arose there has been a windows update, I updated, my trackpad worked again! I was overjoyed! Until the next day it broke again.
  • checking the HP support website for a new driver
    • None are available on the page I am taken to when I input my serial number
    • If I go to the page for a different x360, uninstall my driver and install those ones I either face the same problem or get an error message saying the device is not connected
  • running HP diagnostics
    • the test automatically cancels due to lack of mouse input, so I cannot get an error message

Things possibly worth noting

  • when the touchpad isn't working I cannot access touchpad settings in devices, the option just disappears (and no it is not hiding in additional mouse settings, I looked)
  • I have a precision touchpad
  • As the laptop has a touch screen I can still navigate settings menus ect but this is very infuriating
  • This has been happening intermittently for a few weeks, having suddenly increased in frequency, I cannot think of any triggering event

-Look for HID Touchpad driver that was installed

    -Right click and Update

-Look for "Browse my computer for driver

-Let me pick drivers available drivers

-Choose an old driver and use it.

Restart your computer and check the touchpad

    -Press Windows key + X

    -Click Settings

    -Click on Devices

    -Click on Touchpad

    -Turn it on

If issue persists, proceed with these steps.

    -Press Windows key + X

    -Go to Device Manager

-Expand the Human Interface Device or Mice and other pointing device

-Look for HID Touchpad driver that was installed

    -Right click and Uninstall.

Once uninstalled, go to this link below and click Let HP Detect your Product"

    https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/laptops

Once detected, locate the touchpad driver and download and install it.

    Restart once done and check.

I hope the information above helps. Please let me know how it goes.

Have a wonderful day ahead and stay safe.

    Sincerely,

    Carlo T.
