file/folder sort order

win 10 file explorer sort order (by date) is always folders first.

i prefer order by date, regardless of folder, shortcut or file...
OR folders last, by date

i think there is a date column select, then a secondary SHIFT column select... but.... i cant find it

    Yeah they can't be sorted amongst the other non-folder items, the folders will either be above or below the list of other things, but never mixed betwixt them.

    well, actually im looking for MOST rec ent date first, at top, regardless of file or folder. currently i get folders only, down the list i get to shortcuts and files, even tho their date is much newer.

    If you switch into details view and click the "Date" column heading, it should surely get you into the "folders last, by date" that you were originally looking for.

    thanx Cmdr, but i was recently using explorer and the sort order was very different.... i just bumped something and cant get it back, i guess.

    It is not possible to sort by more than one column at a time (no such feature as shift-select to choose another column). To my knowledge, Windows has no capability to sort folders amongst the files and will always group them together. I'll see if I can find any way around this and let you know if I find a method.
